The South African Brigade sail to Alexandria, Egypt to get involved in the campaign against the Senussi.
The main action of the 4th SAI is in the reoccupation of Sollum. In order to reach Sollum, the forces have to march from Bag Bag to Sollum over miles of desert and lack of water becomes a serious issue when they reach the well-named Thirsty Hill.

4th SAI form part of the Desert march to Sollum where there is a serious lack of water since the Senussi had destroyed all the wells. Some soldiers are reduced to drinking camel urine. - 13 Apr 1916
Return to Alexandria and board ship to Marseille - 22 Apr 1916
1st and 4th SAI quarantine in La Valentine nr. Marseille due to contagious disease picked in the unsanitory conditions aboard the ship from Alexandria.
