Bruton Circular

The next walk is being organised by Peter and Larry and will take place on FRIDAY 7 APRIL 2017.  It will start at the Station Road Car Park in Bruton, which is adjacent to the Godminster Shop famed for its organic cheese and vodka! We’ll meet at 9.30 for a 9.45 start.

Peter and Larry have provided the following information about the walk:

  • Bruton is 20 miles (35-40 minutes drive) from Timsbury and can be reached easily via Shepton Mallet. There is free parking at the Station Road Car Park on the left immediately beyond the parish church (see attached Bruton map). If the car park is full there is also on street parking available in Bruton.
  • The walk is 5.01 miles long.
  • The walk climbs out of Bruton to a wonderful 360 view of the surrounding countryside from Creech Hill, which is regarded as providing one of the best 100 views in England. On a clear day one can see Alfred’s Tower at Stourhead, Cadbury Castle, the Somerset Levels, the Mendips and Lansdown.
  • There are three ‘uppity bits’. The first is a short climb up to the Dovecote. The second is a steady but extended section up to Portway Hill and finally a steep climb up to Creech Hill.
  • There are three stiles and one field gate which doesn’t open.
