Phillips, Henry Wyndham, 1820-1868. Phillips, Henry Wyndham, 1820-1868 :Lady Richardson. 1837. Copied for J G[?] Richardson by H W P, August 1841.. Ref: A-439-016. Alexander Turnbull Library, Wellington, New Zealand. http://natlib.govt.nz/records/22800620

A portrait of the mother of Sarah Harriet Selwyn, the wife of Bishop George Augustus Selwyn, shows Lady Richardson seated in a chair with her feet on a low cushioned footstool. She wears a dark satin dress with full skirt and sleeves, and a very wide lace collar that extends well over her shoulders. Her white lace bonnet has frills around the face and is trimmed with pink ribbon that hangs down on both sides.

The original sitting for the artist was done in 1837. Harriett died in 1839 and her husband in 1841. The copy was made in 1841 for J G Richardson, probably the sitter's son.
