The Lion crest is on their monuments (the arms are a lion passant wiyh fleur-de-lis on the cross-bar)
Grant of arms to Thomas Cox als Hayward by Sir EDward Bylshe Knight Clarenceux principal King of Arms "whereby Thomas Cox als Hayward Gent has desired me to assign unto him such arms as he may lawfully bear" Arms and crest described in document in possession of PCH at Totford.
"Argent on a band sable three flower de liz or on a cleif of the second a lyon pafsan of the third. Andfor his crest on a helmet and crown murall or a demi Lyonrampant sable holding a flower de liz or. Mantled gules double Argent: as m the margent is more finely depicted."
Granted 26th May 1666.
Motto Virtute non Sanguine appears on grant of arms 1666.
Arms inspected by visitation to Gloucester 1oth August 1682 "fees for allowing the arms and entering the pedigree £1.7.0"
They seem to have been connected with Cocks of Castleditch, though spelling their name differently.

Have Act of Parliament "for making effectual the provisions intended by William Hayward late of Quedgeley... towards payment of his debts and providing portions for his younger children" PCH.
