3. | Prynne, Mrs (1.Richard1)Notes:
Sister-in-law of William Prynne "an insufferable protestant and contemporary of Ben Johnson, who wrote a book against the theatre called 'Histriomastix'. Unfortunately he included an attack on Queen Henrietta Maria, the consort of Charles 1,
for occasionally acting in court masques. He was fined and sentenced to sit in pillory at Westminster and Cheapside, and in each location had one ear cut off. It is not clear how this operation would have affected his ability to write. He later
published a volume entitled 'Comfortable Cordial against discomfortable fears of imprisonment' most of which he had written on his chamber walls whilst in prison."

At the end of the17c members of the Bathurst, Curtis Hayward and Codrington families were working in the West Indies where Christopher Codrington inherited a great estate.
Have Act of Parliament "for making effectual the provisions intended by William Hayward late of Quedgeley... towards payment of his debts and providing portions for his younger children" PCH.

Left Oldbury to nephew William Hayward Winstone.
Armorial tankard made for her wedding arms of Winstone impaling Hayward. Sold in 1974 at Sothebys for £4500.
Jan 1758 a letter from her giving a character reference for Francis Watts her cousin who was illiterate at the time but learn't to write later.
Albinia married Thomas Winstone on 26 Sep 1723 in Quedgeley. Thomas (son of Thomas Winstone and Anna Dowell) was born in 1697 in Oldbury Court Frenchay; died in 1757; was buried in Stapleton. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Appears that a re-grant of Arms was made to him.
"That thing as Mr Hayward says is the law and no gentleman in the county can gainsay it" was the remark of the common folk about him.
He used to say Hey the devil instead of well in the beginning of his sentences on prisoners as well as in common conversation.
When the late John Curtis Hayward was introduced to Charles 6th Duke of Beaufort the latter said to him: "Now what relation are you to old Mr Hayward who used to wear a cauliflower wig and say Hey the Devil"
he was in fact great grandson.
