  • Notes 
    • Was Aide de camp to Duke of Marlborough. Captain of 3rd Foot. His mother tried to get a reduction in the purchase money of his commission and was sharply rebuffed by Duke of Marlborough.

    • With wife attained the high regard of George 11appointed Equerry and Treasurer to Queen Caroline, he served with the King at Dettingen, in memory of which the Queen gave Mrs Selwyn a small service of Dresden china (last known of in possession Earl Sydney)

    • Represented Gloucester 1727-1751. Was periodically entrusted with the Lamprey pie which the City periodically presented to Prince of Wales.

    • Rented Dawson Hill in Bexley, his London house Cleveland court (now Cleveland Sq) was in 1888 still held by his descendants the Earl of Sydney.

    • When his mother died he inherited her share of the Scadbury estate and acquired the shares of his Aunts Lady Hewitt and Mrs Farrington (wife's mother).


      Passed all of the estates except Scadbury to his cousin Thomas ffarington
