Notes |
He and his brother William were at Eton and were gentlemen commoners at Merton college Oxford. They used to ride to Eton with a groom going with them to take the ponies back. How their luggage went history does not say.
Like the other Eton boys they wore wigs and the joke of the period was to tear off the boys wigs and to toss them into passing postchaises going up to London (William was allowed two wigs each term and when both of them had gone to the Metropolis he wore a nightcap for the rest of the term.
He was careless and extravagant.
The Gloucester and Berkeley ship canal was cut through Quedegeley in his time. He used to say that his father would have found a way to stop it .No trace can be found of the £4000 compensation money which was paid.
He died a batchelor. his funeral cost £800. [1]
