Notes |
- Sister-in-law of William Prynne "an insufferable protestant and contemporary of Ben Johnson, who wrote a book against the theatre called 'Histriomastix'. Unfortunately he included an attack on Queen Henrietta Maria, the consort of Charles 1,
for occasionally acting in court masques. He was fined and sentenced to sit in pillory at Westminster and Cheapside, and in each location had one ear cut off. It is not clear how this operation would have affected his ability to write. He later
published a volume entitled 'Comfortable Cordial against discomfortable fears of imprisonment' most of which he had written on his chamber walls whilst in prison."
