  1. 1.  Hester Lewis was born in 1742 in Archangel, Russia (daughter of Lewis, Admiral); died in 1829.

    Notes:

    Entertained the Duke of Brunswick incognito just before the battle of Waterloo where he was among the first to fall. She asked" Monsieur etes vous francais?" to which he replied "Non Madame je suis vrai Allmand"

    Took an English leg of mutton to Queen Caroline Matilda wife of Christian VII King of Denmark and sister of George III as she was a prisoner in Kronberg Castle.

    Died of burns sustained when her lace cap caught fire.

    Hester married Nicholas Fenwick in 1757 in S't Anne's Church Soho London. Nicholas (son of Nicholas Fenwick and Elizabeth Watson) was born in 1729 in Stockholm Denmark; died in 1797 in Elsinore Denmark. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    When the Czar Peter the great came over to England he visited the Arsenal dock yard where he came across young Lewis, then a midshipman and taking a fancy to him he persuaded him to return with him (the Czar) to Russia where Lewis entered the

    Russian Navy and in time was appointed High Admiral. The Emperor decorated him with the Order of St Catherine (Red ribbon) as seen in his portrait. One of his sons was a page to Empress Catherine.
